County Executive George Latimer said he hopes to change that for 2019. Latimer said he met with officials from Section 1 and agreed to host another meeting in March to discuss returning the tournament to the County Center.
"They felt they had reached a deadlock with the prior county administration, and we said, ‘Well, this is a new administration that’s willing to work with you,' " Latimer said at a press conference Wednesday.
Latimer said it was too late to consider holding this year's tournament at the County Center. The tournament's move to Pace University in Pleasantville has sparked an outcry throughout the region.
"I'mm confident that we can have a productive discussion going forward," Latimer said. "I think we’ll negotiate in good faith for what happens in 2019, and certainly our goal is to try and have this tournament back at the county center because it does represent an iconic location for this particular sport."
